Buyer's Guide: Vaginal Ph Test

Vaginal Ph Test - An Essential Step For Detecting Yeast Infections

A Vaginal Ph Test is a simple and easy home use test to measure the pH balance of your vaginal discharge. Vaginal pH balance is important as this affects many aspects of the reproductive system including fertility and sperm production. Although not covered in this article, there are other reasons why a Vaginal Ph Test might be advisable. If you are or think you might be experiencing any of the following symptoms, a Vaginal Ph Test should be performed:

An abnormal vaginal discharge with a distinct fishy odor - when looked at it may not seem like a problem, however if you are a woman who has this symptom on a regular basis then it is wise to get a Vaginal Ph Test. A Vaginal Ph Test kit can be purchased at your local pharmacy and is very easy to use. Simply pop in a swab, take some time to read the instructions, and within minutes you will have a Vaginal Ph Test result. This kit comes with an exam in which you are required to urinate on a test strip that is then inserted into the vagina. The test strip should show a color that ranges from green to pink.

Symptoms associated with yeast infections are unpleasant to say the least. In most cases these types of symptoms can be treated easily by using over the counter products such as creams or suppositories. However, in the case of a recurring infection the best course of action would be seeking medical advice and seeking treatment. A Vaginal Ph Test is the perfect way to determine whether or not your yeast infections are being caused by a Candida yeast infection or a more serious cause.

Another common symptom of a yeast infection is itching and irritation. A Vaginal Ph Test will also show whether the pH level of the vaginal environment is acidic or alkaline. When the vaginal environment becomes acidic an abundance of harmful bacteria begin to thrive. This in turn causes discomfort and an itchiness that is generally worse at night time. This is why it is better to get a Vaginal Ph Test before the symptoms become severe.

Many women may question why a vaginal ph test would need to be done in order to determine whether or not they have a Candida infection. Well, in order to get a true diagnosis it is necessary to actually observe the vaginal flora or the level of acidity in the vagina. As stated previously, if the vaginal environment is acidic, then an abundance of harmful bacteria are able to grow. In addition, if the vaginal pH becomes too alkaline, then an equal amount of beneficial bacteria are able to grow as well. Therefore, the level of acidity or acidosis in the vagina can affect test results.

It is important that if a woman has a positive result from a vaginal ph test that she should discuss this positive result with her doctor. The reason for doing this is that in some instances it may be necessary to diagnose and treat a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis before there is actually a problem. A doctor can diagnose these conditions simply by taking a culture of vaginal fluid and performing a series of laboratory tests. Once the doctor has diagnosed the problem then he or she will be able to prescribe treatment that is specific for the particular condition.

In order for a woman to know if she is in fact dealing with a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis then she can take an American college women's test called the min read. The min read consists of two parts. The first part consists of a horizontal line that runs across the vagina from one end to the other. This line indicates the lowest pH value that is present within the vaginal cavity. The second part of the min read shows the highest level of acidity. These two values can both be measured using a pH probe that is inserted into the vagina.

If the pH level of the vagina changes then this may help to explain the discomfort and other symptoms that are felt during a woman's menstrual cycle or other times when abnormal vaginal ph levels are experienced. A change in either of these readings may help identify what is wrong. It may also help to change one's diet to restore a healthy balance of bacteria and yeast. Changes in diet may help to reduce or even eliminate the unpleasant symptoms of these conditions, including the vaginal discomfort.
