Urine temperature is one of the most common tests used by drug testers. This is especially true in cases involving drugs where the suspected drug has been found in the urine, but there have yet to be any noticeable changes in the blood or other substances that could indicate a drug overdose. The first step is usually to take the patient into the room where the procedure will take place. The doctor may also choose to have the patient sit in a chair in the room or on a hitching post while the test is in progress. Either way, the patient should rest easy and comfortable throughout the test. This will allow the doctor to get a good reading and determine the likely results.
Next, the doctor will collect a sample of the patient's urine using an instrument known as a sampler. This tool has a special glass tube with a narrow entrance that allows only a limited amount of urine to flow through to become collected. Once the urine emerges from the sampler, it is checked for its temperature. The temperature should be right near the normal body temperature range for the particular patient.
The next step involves examining the collected sample of urine for a current temperature. This can be done manually or using special thermometers known as digital blood probes. A blood probe may require some dilution before being placed in the urine stream. Digital probes may require the presence of a small volume of fluid to allow for its proper placement. This fluid is typically water, but may also be a small volume of blood.
In some cases, a sample may need to be collected on an outside location such as in the armpit or under the clothing. This location is generally chosen because it will most likely be easier to collect and process. A dipstick may be used to collect the sample. The dipstick is inserted into a small collection cup that contains a special chemical formula that allows only a small quantity of urine to be contained. This formula is designed to check for the presence of DNA. This testing is normally performed on specimens that are taken from only one area of the body.
Most companies that perform these tests will use a reagent that allows the tester to determine the specific gravity of the urine sample. This specific gravity is an important factor when it comes to the results of this drug test. A high concentration of crystals will indicate that a person has been consuming drugs that contain opiates.
When performing a urine temperature test, the tester generally has 24 hours to complete the procedure. In some cases, the entire test can be completed in as few as five minutes. Depending on the specific drug test that is being conducted, it may not always be necessary for a formal request or court order to occur. For example, if the employee gives permission to the collector to obtain the sample and to perform the test on the employer, the consent form shall specify that the drug test is not compulsory.
Urine temperature testing can be very useful for employers who are faced with the dilemma of whether or not to hire someone based on the results of a drug test. If the employee's urine shows a high concentration of crystals, then it may be a sign that he or she may have been smoking pot or drinking too much alcohol. However, there may be other reasons for the presence of crystals in the urine. Therefore, it is important to gather all evidence and to consult several medical experts before making any decision.
