The Ph Test is used to measure the acid concentration in a liquid sample or in its solid form. It is one of the most widely used test methods worldwide. This method is used by many institutions, both at colleges and universities as well as in laboratories, to determine the pH levels of various liquids, usually water and saline solutions. This method was actually developed by Dr. George J. Ohs, who was an advisor to the American Bureau of Standards.
The pH test papers are basically an indicator paper that measures the pH level of a liquid sample. Generally, ph test papers have black or blue colored sides and a unique number of vertical bars along with a corresponding number of horizontal lines on which to indicate the data points. Usually, these indicator strips are coated with a wax or varnish so that they would not easily mark or wear off even after long usage. Ph indicator papers generally have a density of around thirty pounds per square inch. Millimeter thicknesses are also available for a more flexible basis.
In using ph test papers, you must first strip the paper to leave an adhesive strip behind which can be easily attached to a stapler. The adhesive strip serves the important purpose of keeping the data in place, even after the paper has been stripped. After this, a pair of standard staplers can be used to apply the Ph Test strips to the bottles or containers in question. Another important point to be noted here is that you should ensure that you do not apply the Ph Test strips too early in the process, as it may alter the concentration levels of the ph range in the container to a higher or lower extent.
For example, let us take a look at a Ph Test paper which has been prepared using distilled water as the main ingredient. You should note that in this case, a slight difference in the Ph Test paper's concentration level will alter the color pattern and thus the results shown on the monitor. To maintain the accuracy of your Ph Test paper, it is important that you leave a gap of at least three minutes between the application of the Ph Test paper and the start of the test. This will ensure that the Ph Test paper has settled down and does not play any role in changing the Ph Test results.
Another important aspect of Ph Test strips is that you should never use distilled water during the entire procedure. It is because the Ph Test strips are very sensitive and can become easily affected when exposed to the atmospheric air. Therefore, while preparing the Ph Test strips, you should always prepare them in room temperature. In addition, it is advisable to store the paper in dry cool environments away from any direct sunlight. While removing the paper from its packaging, you should make sure that the air is properly circulated inside the storage box.
In the absence of an accurate calibration process, Ph Test gauges can get misaligned and give wrong results. There are various materials which can be used to manufacture Ph Test gauges. One of the most popular material used for this purpose is vinyl. However, vinyl can only be used for producing quality Ph Test strips and is not suitable for other purposes. Therefore, you should always opt for the genuine Ph Test strips manufactured from glass or metal.
Apart from Ph Test strips, you also need to consider Ph Test liquid indicators. Ph Test liquid indicators are ideal for measuring the pH level in water. Ph Test liquid indicators come in different forms such as drops or small bottles. It is very easy to use these Ph Test liquid indicators as they are available in user-friendly program formats. Moreover, Ph Test liquid indicators come in different ranges such as from zero to four hundred.
When the Ph Test paper displays a colored result, this means that the alkalinity or the acidity level of the solution is mildly alkaline or mildly acidic. On the contrary, when the Ph Test paper displays a black or a gray result, this indicates the presence of high levels of acid or alkalinity in the solution. The pH level can be tested with the help of the pH test papers, which provide test results in the form of percentage or numbers. You can always rely on the tested and recommended ranges of the pH indicator such as the 2% alkaline, 2% neutral, 3% alkaline, 4% neutral, and the 7% alkaline.
