Buyer's Guide: Metabolism Test

How Does a Metabolism Test Help Me Lose Weight?

Discover more about the metabolic state of your body with this easy, at-home Metabolism Test developed by a leading fitness expert. An out of balance metabolism can negatively impact your energy levels, excess weight, and many other - important factors - and this simple test can reveal whether your body has just the right level of 3 key natural hormones which drive metabolism. It measures thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH), which is an important energy regulator; testosterone, that helps you build muscles and burn fat more quickly; and cortisol, which stimulates your metabolism to help you boost energy levels and lose weight. Using this simple test, you can quickly find out whether your metabolic rate is out of whack and need help balancing it out.

This is a great way to discover what foods, nutrients and calories are helping you lose weight or maintain the weight you have. Metabolism testing gives you the exact response you need to help you decide what your ideal weight loss or maintenance level is. This simple and easy test measures vital hormones in your body which directly impacts your metabolism. You will learn how to naturally increase your metabolism so you can burn calories even when you are not doing physical exercise. You will learn exactly what foods and vitamins are the most important to boosting your metabolism for optimal weight loss or maintenance. And you can begin the process of losing weight or maintaining the weight you already have.

Most people who go on to lose weight or maintain their weight do not perform any type of metabolic testing. Most people think that by taking these tests they can get a true picture of their metabolic rate and see how their body burns calories when they are not exercising. But the problem with most of these tests is that they only measure the resting metabolic rate, or RMR. VO2 Max Testing measures both the active and total metabolic rates simultaneously.

VO2, or a measure of the oxygen your lungs can efficiently extract and use, is an important chemical marker of overall health. Many diseases such as atherosclerosis, heart disease and diabetes are also enhanced by low levels of oxygen in the blood. Low levels of VO2 can greatly influence your ability to burn calories, even when you are not physically active. That's why many of the fitness tests today, such as the oxygen level test, are primarily VO2max based. But the latest VO2 tests measure your actual lung capacity as well as your resting metabolic rate. And they include information about your hormones.

The major reason that the VO2 max test is better than the other tests is that it actually measures the hormones that are important in determining the health of your entire body. As discussed, the main function of your thyroid gland and its many hormones is to regulate the body's metabolism. The balance between the thyroid hormones and the metabolism determines whether your metabolism runs at normal or accelerated rate, the amount of energy you have for physical activity, the amount of calories you burn, the condition of your organs, your mental state and even the color of your hair. When you have abnormal levels of any one of the hormones involved in metabolism, the normal functioning of that gland or hormone is affected. And that means that your metabolism is out of whack.

So, what makes a good home metabolism testing kit? The best ones will contain a collection of several saliva samples that are each sent to the laboratory for analysis. The saliva samples are checked for sodium, potassium, calcium, glycogen and fatty acids. And they are analyzed for thyroid-stimulating hormones, insulin resistance, blood pressure and metabolic rate. They will also check for abnormalities in your thyroid, pancreas, liver or kidneys.

An interesting point to consider is that although there is a relationship between the hormone levels and the metabolism rate, it is not necessarily true that high levels of one hormone will cause high levels of the other. This is because the metabolism rate is itself controlled by the chemical and electrical signals that pass through the brain. The levels of hormones involved in the thermogenesis process can therefore not be directly correlated with energy levels in the body. However, the physical activity level can be greatly influenced by the levels of the hormones produced, thereby contributing to energy levels swings and weight gain.

One of the things that can help you find out if you have an abnormal thyroid is to perform a lipolysis test. This test provides results similar to those of a fasting insulin test. It uses lactic acid as a source of energy instead of glucose. A lactic acid meter can be used to measure the amount of lactic acid in your blood. You can take the test many times during the day or when you feel physically inactive. An abnormal result may indicate low levels of ATP or excessive production of glycolysis, another of the mechanisms involved in weight loss and the breakdown of food.
