Buyer's Guide: Home Fertility Test

Home Fertility Test

An at home fertility test can often be done quickly, simply and easily without the expense of a visit to a fertility clinic. At home testing can be done through the use of a home fertility kit. Kits can be purchased online or at a local store that sells over-the-counter fertility testing supplies.

At-home fertility tests can detect problems with male fertility such as low sperm count, impaired sperm motility or premature ejaculation. These tests can also reveal problems with female fertility such as abnormal vaginal bleeding, irregular periods, vaginal odor and painful intercourse. Other at-home fertility tests can help couples decide if certain treatments are right for them and their fertility situation. Many fertility tests will look for irregularities in the hormones that a woman produces after her ovulation period. Other tests can measure the quality and number of sperm in the semen.

Most fertility tests come in two varieties. One is a saliva-based test that can detect hormonal levels in your system. The other type requires a sample of your urine. The saliva-based tests are not as accurate as over-the-counter or prescription medications.

Home fertility tests can be purchased over-the-counter or with a prescription from your medical doctor. Mira Fertilizer, one of the most popular over-the-counter kits, allows a woman to collect a daily dose of vitamins and minerals while trying to conceive. This letsgetchecked allows women to track their hormone levels as they attempt to conceive and allow them to see where their hormone levels need to improve to conceive. Each tablet contains a personalized blend of vitamins, minerals and herbs that are known to improve fertility. Some of these herbs include: green tea, calcium, zinc, and magnesium.

Another at-home fertility tests available are kits that test the strength and motility of the sperm. They are similar to saliva tests, but the result from the saliva test cannot be duplicated with an at-home fertility kit. There are other non-hormonal tests that are used in the same way as saliva tests. Some of these non-hormonal tests include: anemia, cholesterol, glucose, and thyroid. These tests do not require hormones to be tested; therefore, they are more accurately determining if a couple's hormones levels are compatible when attempting to conceive.

Any time a couple is trying to conceive, it is important to understand the possible causes for infertility. Each person is unique and likely to have his or her own unique reproductive issues. For example, a man may have a low sperm count; this can often be caused by a low testosterone level. If this is the case, a couple should consult with a doctor to determine if a hormone replacement therapy may be an option.

The at home fertility test that tests the woman's cervical mucus is also different from other tests because it focuses on what sets this test apart from the others. This test will look for the presence of an increased amount of the human female's progesterone on a daily basis. When the woman has a low amount or absence of the hormone, this can be an indication of what sets this test apart from all the others. In addition, the human female's ovarian reserve test can tell a couple if she is experiencing polycystic ovarian syndrome.

The next step that any couple should take is to carefully track their menstrual cycle. While tracking one's cycle can be a bit challenging, it is the only sure way to know what your body is really producing. A fertility test can only tell you the quantity, but not the quality of the hormones being produced. Couples should be tracking both their menstrual cycle and their basal body temperature with an ovulation kit as well as an accurate thermometer.
