A pregnancy test is normally used to identify whether you are pregnant. It is typically performed during the first week of your pregnancy. The two main ways to detect pregnancy are: 1 examining your urine or blood for hcg protein or hcg levels and 2 ultrasound testing. Urine or blood hcg levels generally indicate early pregnancy, while ultrasound examination generally indicates the presence of implantation. Blood tests for hcg can also be used to monitor levels of progesterone which has an effect on the development of the embryo and fetus. Implantation can only be detected by examination of the amniotic fluid.
A direct test for hcg pregnancy tests consists of a special kind of urine test. This test can only be performed after you have urinated several times. After each urination, the test will have revealed a colorless area of a colored structure known as a hcg protein. Ultrasound imaging of this structure will tell whether the structure is solid, filled with fluid or mixed with amniotic fluid. Based on the result, your doctor will determine if you have conceived or not.
Another hcg pregnancy tests that are available for home use are based on the use of blood hcg levels. The blood hcg protein should be measured as part of routine laboratory tests performed before taking any hormonal medications. Based on the results of these tests, your doctor will recommend a specific course of treatment. These tests are not highly accurate but home ultrasound tests have a high level of reliability.
Based on the first response of the embryo, doctors recommend specific types of medical procedures and medications for various stages of the pregnancy. For this reason, it is necessary to do a complete medical screening of yourself, when you think you might be pregnant so that you can discuss the options available to you. Hcg pregnancy tests can either be done by using urine test strips or by using a pregnancy test kit. Both methods of testing have their advantages and disadvantages.
Urine pregnancy test strips are cheaper and easier to use than pregnancy test kits. These strips are to be applied on a vaginal swab and then discarded after thirty minutes. The main advantage is that there is no need for a second set of strip application and there is also a shorter period of sensitivity required for a positive result. Urine pregnancy test kits have a much longer validity period and better accuracy. A positive result from a pregnancy test with the use of urine strips gives rise to a positive result when the hcg molecule is present in the amniotic fluid. In case of a successful implantation, the embryo would contain more than one hcg molecule.
Blood tests are another method of determining the presence of implantation. Blood samples are taken from the amniotic fluid and analysed using specialised blood tests. There are various blood tests that can be used to detect hcg levels. However, these blood tests require some expertise and can be expensive. Some blood tests can also be very inaccurate and give a wrong positive result.
Home pregnancy tests are extremely easy and cheap alternatives to blood tests. An early morning urine test strip is not only cheaper than other home pregnancy tests, but also easier to use and more reliable. An early morning urine test strip can be purchased from any pharmacy and costs only a few dollars. In case of an abnormal result from home tests, you should consult your doctor. Women with certain forms of hcg should avoid taking home pregnancy tests as they might falsely indicate an ectopic pregnancy, a condition where an implant has implanted outside the uterus.
Endometriosis and embryo transfer are conditions where implants are inserted into the uterus. These forms of hcg are called variant hooks. An ultrasound can detect the presence of implantation in early pregnancy if the condition of implantation is suspected. Some variants of the treatment may even affect the ability of the woman to deliver babies. Thus, it is important to undertake a detailed medical checkup after being diagnosed with an hcg pregnancy symptom.
