You've probably heard the words diabetic blood sugar testing used before, and you may be wondering what that means. A blood glucose meter is a device that measures blood sugar levels. Meals that are too small, especially those that are high in fat and sugar content, will lead to frequent urination and can cause a diabetic to gain weight, which is another reason why they need to maintain proper levels of sugar in their blood.
Diabetics need to monitor their blood sugar levels constantly and should do so when their doctor tells them to. Monitoring is usually done with a special blood pressure device called an Anselometer. Reading these levels is done once every one to two hours. If the blood sugar levels are high, the doctor will tell the diabetic to slow down their activity. If the levels are low, then the person needs to eat more often. The goal for diabetics is to maintain normal blood sugar levels.
A diabetic diet should include plenty of vegetables, fruits, whole grains, lean meats, and healthy oils. A healthy diabetic does not have to follow a special diet, but should make changes to his or her eating habits. These changes usually consist of adding more fresh vegetables and fruits to a person's daily meals. When a person eats fresh fruits and vegetables, they feel fuller for a longer period of time. Lean meats, on the other hand, contain little calories, which means a diabetic can eat lean meats for every meal without gaining too much weight.
Exercising regularly helps keep a diabetic's blood sugar levels balanced. This helps to prevent a diabetic from developing any of the complications that come with diabetes. Exercising helps to increase a person's metabolism, which causes the body to use its stored sugar instead of taking more from the food that is eaten. Exercise also improves the health of joints and bones.
