A coolant pressure tester is essential in any auto mechanic shop. These handy devices are used for checking the coolant level in automobiles as well as other cooling systems. Most vehicles come with a built-in gauge for checking coolant levels. However, this device is not reliable when it comes to detecting leaks. This is why most auto mechanics purchase an externally-mounted coolant tester.
There are various manufacturers who produce coolant pressure testers. This manufacturer's logo is usually found on the product box, but if you cannot find the brand name, try contacting the company through its website. Some of these manufacturers have websites with detailed product information. You can check the product details online to see which type suits your particular make and model of car.
The manufacturer of the pressure tester is also mentioned on the device's label or tag. To identify which type you need, read the label or tag carefully and note the part number and type of product you have. Other important notes: If the tag or sticker says "2021", it is a common model; if the model number is not mentioned, it is an uncommon model.
The manufacturer of the coolant pressure tester kit connects the radiator to a pump. You can buy a single-action pump or a dual-action pump depending on your specific cooling needs. For single-action pumps, the fitting is made with one thread on both sides of the radiator. For dual-action pumps, the fitting is made with threads on both sides of the radiator and the valve is placed on the threaded portion of the radiator.
A pressure tester for a refrigerant gas must be able to discharge into the outlet on the end of the hose. To do this, the supply line for the gas must be attached to a discharge port on the end of the hose. This discharge port is usually located on the same side as the air release valve, so you will know which side the valve attaches to by looking at the end of the hose connected to the valve. The connector used to connect the hose to the air release valve may either be a two-prong or three-prong connector depending on the model and type of refrigerant supply you are using. There is a drain line on the refrigeration lines to drain any remaining coolant.
Once you have determined which direction the supply valve points, turn the pump valve to the clockwise position to start the pumping. The intake tube will be detached from the air source and the cooling system. If your system is vented, it will come out of the other end of the intake tube. You can identify which end of the intake tube you are going to attach to the pressure tester if you look inside the cooling system, just like if you were pouring some water out of a drain. Then, using the appropriate needle valve turn the valve to the counterclockwise position.
Once you are done testing the hoses, clear away any debris with a hose or with the appropriate blower. After you have done all that, you should note down which type of tester you are using, whether you are using a brand, a generic, or a pressure type cooling system kit. There are many manufacturers who sell different brands. You can get them easily through online websites. You can also ask for help at any local hardware store.
It is very important to note down on the leakage detection period of your heating and cooling system because if your heating and cooling system has a major leak, you will be in big trouble before you repair or replace any part. The main reason why this kind of leak tester is important is because you don't want to waste your time in checking if a specific brand is capable of detecting leaks. Another reason is because sometimes you don't notice a leak until the temperature is high enough that it causes a noticeable change. It is often seen that the manufactures give a larger leak range than their competition.
