Buyer's Guide: Chlamydia Home Test

Chlamydia Home Test Costs in the US

For those who are sexually active, chlamydia home test should be conducted monthly in order to detect any signs or symptoms. The following information will help you understand the requirements for a chlamydia home test. The kit is available for purchase from local drugstores and other brick and mortar establishments. The test can be performed three times per year on an annual basis. This is especially important for people whose partner has been diagnosed with chlamydia.

A gonorrhea test is not necessary for a sexually active woman. The following table displays the most common chlamydia infection symptoms. The first step in the treatment process is getting a medical diagnosis. In order to confirm the infection you must see your healthcare provider or doctor. The following table provides the most common oral chlamydia testing kits at all three of the partner tested locations (CLIA certified).

The most common symptoms of chlamydia are urethral discharge with a foul odor. You can also get tested for many other STD's; these include genital warts, hepatitis, gonorrhea and trichomoniasis. If you have any of the symptoms listed above, the sooner you get tested, the more accurate your results will be. Otherwise, the infection may not be detected and you could be risking a serious health problem.

It is very easy to get tested for chlamydia. Many people don't feel they are at risk for contracting chlamydia. That's because the incubation period of the bacteria is four to five weeks. Also, there is no need to visit your healthcare provider if you choose to self-test for chlamydia. In fact, many people who contract gonorrhea infection, don't even go to their doctors.

Chlamydia testing is simple and easy. All it requires is to go to your local sexual health clinic and get a quick physical exam. They will look at the symptoms you have and then determine if you are indeed infected or not. Your partner should be tested as well. If both partners are positive, then you should go to the lab to get a conclusive test.

Once the doctors confirm that you are positive, you will receive a prescription for an antibiotic. Usually, you will start receiving treatments within one to two days of being tested. You will likely be given multiple doses of the antibiotics and could be sent home to sleep. Typically, the antibiotics require that you stay in the hospital for at least seven to ten days to achieve optimum results.

A large number of people who test positive for Chlamydia infection, don't go to their doctors. Instead, they rely on home testing kits and go to the local clinics and physicians' offices to ask for treatment. It has been found that most people who contract Chlamydia, do not go to their doctor because they are embarrassed and don't want to appear weak. They fear that if they go to the physician, it will be transmitted to their partner.

In addition, women fear that if they go to a clinic, they will be exposed to the infection and will be treated. This is simply not true. Chlamydia can be treated and cured. Your only concern is to make sure that you were tested for Chlamydia, including vaginal symptoms, early so that appropriate treatment can be administered.

Women most at risk are those who engage in multiple sexual partners or have casual vaginal and oral sex with new or multiple partners. Men can also get chlamydia but the chances are much lower than women. Chlamydia is not highly transmitted disease, like HIV/AIDS, and is not preventable. However, you can protect yourself by abstaining from having intercourse. You should also not get chlamydia through oral sex or vaginal sex. If you do, you need to abstain from sex until you test negative.

The symptoms of Chlamydia include vaginal discharge that is either thin and watery or thick and dark red or black. Along with the discharge are associated odor that can either be fishy or strong. Some people will have no symptoms at all or may only see a slight odor. However, other people will experience severe and painful vaginal itching, painful sex and an uncomfortable burning sensation when urinating. Many people also have a gray or white line along the vaginal wall or inside the vagina. Other symptoms include pain while walking, bladder weakness, muscle aches, blurred vision, backaches, fever and fatigue.

If you have any of these symptoms you should consult your doctor immediately. Your doctor will conduct an exam and order tests to determine if you have Chlamydia. Depending on your tests results, your doctor will either suggest that you be tested for Chlamydia or not. If you have been screened and tested for Chlamydia and you are still unsure if you have it or not, you can go back to the local health department and request a Chlamydia home test cost in the U.S. This can be done at any local drug store. There are also online sites that offer this testing cost.
