Tips On Using A Leak Tester To Find Large Leaks

The EK-Leak Test is a quick and reliable method of checking for possible leaks in any liquid cooling system. The front end is a rigid, durable piece of stainless steel. One end consists of a rigid male G1/4" connectable female connector port so that it can be easily plugged into any typical port in your cooling system. The other end has an adjustable clamp with non-threaded top piece that allows the connecting end to move out from the front surface of the case. The leak then occurs as a liquid escapes through the female connector port on the opposite end. This method is very effective for finding leaks at the front of the case since you can readily access both sides of the connection point.

You need to make sure though that the Leak Tester you use is calibrated to the exact PSI and CFM of your pump. Using a non calibrating Leak Tester will just give you false results. The best way to determine the correct measurement time is to use a flow tester. A flow tester will allow you to measure the air pressure of the escaping liquid without having to readjust the PSI or CFM values recorded by the leak tester.

Using a differential pressure sender to find leaks can also be helpful when using a Leak Tester. Because the airflow is very small under the hood, the airflow is very consistent, thus reducing the possibility of false readings. Using a differential pressure sender increases the chances of being able to detect tiny leaks, especially if you are using a pump with a tiny leak stop. For example, sometimes leak detectors will mark the low moisture areas of the exterior housing as being dry - yet, there might still be moisture inside the interior housing and you would miss this mark if you did not use a differential pressure sender.

Another option for detecting leaks is using the vacuum chamber method. A leak tester that uses the vacuum chamber method does not require you to open the hood. This makes the inspection process much easier, especially if you are working on an older car or truck. A benefit of the chamber method is that you can inspect any part of the motor without having to remove the whole hood.

The proprietary low vacuum chamber method of leak testing is a highly reliable chamber-type leak detection device. If you want to purchase a leak tester, you should buy one made by an industry leader in the industry such as PSA. While PSA offers highly reliable chamber methods, it is imperative that you purchase one from a reputable manufacturer.

A new leak test is required to detect new leaks. There are many types of leaks that could be detected using these methods. A couple of examples include loose bolts and disconnections. In order to detect whether the bolt is loose, you should raise the steering wheel and listen to the engine idle. If the engine sounds like it is losing pressure suddenly, this could be a sign of a loose bolt.

If the tester detects a leak, it goes to the first detection stage. During the first detection stage, the tester measures the pressure at the disconnection point and compares it with the standard value. After the first detection stage, the tester goes to the second detection stage. Here, the tester measures the pressure at the leak point and again compares it with the standard value.

For large leaks, you should go to the third detection stage. Here, the tester uses high frequency sound waves to locate the location of the leak. If the location is determined, the tester pumps water through the hose until the leak is found. Once the leak is found, the hoses are either resealed or replaced and a new one is laid out to make sure that the next leak does not occur.
